Thirty-three tourists from West Bengal sustained injuries today when their sleeper bus overturned on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway near Ramban. The incident occurred around noon as the bus, with registration number WB39K-2929, was traveling from Srinagar to Jammu.
Witnesses reported that the bus lost control before turning turtle, resulting in chaos on the busy highway. Local residents, along with police officials, promptly launched a rescue operation.
The injured passengers received immediate medical attention and were transported to District Hospital Ramban for treatment. The bus, which has a seating capacity of 58, was carrying 55 passengers at the time of the accident.
Authorities confirmed that many of the injured sustained only minor injuries, while some require further medical evaluation.
Local police have taken cognizance of the mishap and initiated an investigation to determine the factors contributing to the rollover. Police spokesperson stated, “We are looking into various aspects such as road conditions, driver fatigue, and mechanical failure to ascertain the cause of this unfortunate incident.”
Travellers are now facing potential delays on the Jammu-Srinagar highway, a crucial route that connects Kashmir to the rest of the country. Highway authorities advised caution as they work on clearing the accident site and ensuring the road is safe for travel.
Many locals expressed their concerns over safety on the highway, citing frequent accidents involving passenger vehicles. They urged the government to improve infrastructure and implement stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.
