Amarnath Yatra Sees Drop After Pahalgam Attack, Govt Assures Full Security

After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in 22 April, many people have become hesitant to join this year’s Amarnath Yatra. As a result, the number of pilgrims registering for the yatra has gone down by around 10% compared to previous years.

However, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has assured the public that the administration is fully prepared and the pilgrimage will continue safely. He said that multi-layered security arrangements have been made to protect all pilgrims.

Key Updates:

Registration Drop: Over 10% fewer people have registered for the yatra after the attack.

Convoy Travel: All pilgrims are being advised to travel in groups/convoys, not alone, especially on sensitive routes.

Security Setup:

Three-layer security at all base camps.

More army, police, and paramilitary personnel deployed.

All service providers (like tent owners, pony men, etc.) are being verified.

Route Safety: The yatra track has been widened and made safer, and emergency vehicles will be available if needed.

Helicopter Services: These are currently suspended for safety reasons.

Registration Figures

1. Before the Pahalgam attack (April 22)

Approximately 236,000 pilgrims had already registered .

2. Current confirmed registrations (by June 26)

Around 85,000 pilgrims had re‑verified their entries following the attack .

LG Manoj Sinha’s Message:

The yatra will happen as planned. All safety arrangements have been made. I request all devotees to have faith and follow the guidelines.”
