Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha inaugurated the new Centre of Dr. Agarwals Eye Hospital today in Qamarwari, Srinagar. The event highlighted the significance of new technologies, particularly AI-powered systems, in revolutionizing healthcare access and personalized treatments in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).
During his inaugural speech, the Lieutenant Governor urged the medical community to ensure that healthcare remains accessible and affordable for all residents, especially those in remote areas. He emphasized the importance of connecting specialists with patients situated in rural and far-flung regions of J&K.
“Over the past decade, modern technologies have fundamentally transformed the eye care sector, offering patients faster diagnoses and more accurate treatments. These innovations have not only improved the quality of care but have also significantly increased access to healthcare services,” he stated, underscoring the vital role of technology in contemporary medicine.
The Lieutenant Governor specifically mentioned that AI-powered systems have enabled healthcare professionals to detect early signs of eye diseases and related problems. “Dr. Agarwals Eye Centre, along with other hospitals, must leverage these advanced technologies to provide services comparable to those available in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai,” he added.
Shri Sinha also highlighted the transformational journey of Jammu and Kashmir’s healthcare landscape in recent years. Under the capable leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, he assured that every citizen will have access to quality healthcare.
“The rapid expansion of both government and private healthcare infrastructure is paving the way for a healthier future for every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir,” he remarked, reinforcing the need for collaborative efforts in the health sector.
To further enhance healthcare delivery, the Lieutenant Governor called upon Dr. Agarwals Eye Centre and similar institutions to organize free eye check-up camps throughout J&K. He emphasized the necessity of prioritizing rural and border areas, stating they should receive attention in the spirit of selfless service.
Moreover, he encouraged the use of telemedicine and virtual consultations to extend the reach of healthcare services. “We must ensure that people receive consistent medical attention through digital examinations and consultations,” he urged.
Present at the inaugural ceremony were Dr. Ashar Agarwal, Chief Business Officer of Dr. Agarwals Group of Eye Hospitals; Dr. Atif Ali Mir, Head of Clinical Services at Dr. Agarwals Eye Hospital, Srinagar; along with various esteemed guests including Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Secretary of the Science & Technology department, and Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Secretary of Health and Medical Education.
In addition, local officials such as Shri Anshul Garg, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, and Shri Rajiv Pandey, DIG Central Kashmir Range, were in attendance, reinforcing the governmental support for healthcare improvements in the region. The participation of community leaders like Shri Imran Reza Ansari, President of the All J&K Shia Association, highlighted an inclusive approach towards healthcare advancement.
