1674 – Coronation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj: On this day, Shivaji Maharaj was formally crowned as the king of the Maratha Empire at Raigad Fort in Maharashtra. His coronation marked the establishment of a sovereign Hindu kingdom in the Deccan region.

1981 – Bihar Train Tragedy: A devastating train derailment occurred near the Bagmati River in Bihar, resulting in the deaths of over 800 passengers. The train plunged into the river during monsoon floods, making it one of India’s deadliest rail accidents.

1984 – Operation Blue Star: The Indian Army launched Operation Blue Star to remove armed militants from the Golden Temple in Amritsar. The operation led to significant casualties and damage to the temple, causing widespread unrest and deepening communal tensions.

1997 – Formation of BIMSTEC: India, along with Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Nepal, and Bhutan, established the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), aiming to promote regional cooperation and development.

2004 – Tamil Declared Classical Language: President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam declared Tamil as a classical language of India, recognizing its rich heritage and historical significance.
