Pakistan Floods: Hundreds of Dead in 48 Hours Amid Monsoon Rains

Islamabad, Aug 16 (Agencies):

At least 321 people have been killed in northern Pakistan over the past 48 hours after relentless monsoon rains triggered devastating flash floods, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said on Saturday.

The mountainous Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province bore the brunt of the disaster, recording 307 deaths, while nine fatalities were reported in Pakistan-administered Kashmir (Azad Jammu & Kashmir), and five in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Authorities warn that the death toll may rise further as rescue teams struggle to reach remote flood-hit areas where bridges, roads, and villages have been washed away. Footage from local media showed torrents of water sweeping away houses, vehicles, and farmland.

Meteorological officials have cautioned of more heavy rainfall in the coming days, raising fears of further landslides and cloudburst.
