Two PDD Officials Caught Taking Bribe in Srinagar – ACB Action

The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) made headlines on Wednesday when they caught two officials from the Power Development Department (PDD) red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000. This incident occurred at Sempora, located on the outskirts of Srinagar.

Identified officials included a Junior Engineer and a Section Officer, both stationed in the Electric Division Panthachowk. Acting swiftly on a tip-off, the ACB deployed a team that laid a trap to apprehend the duo while they were allegedly demanding and receiving the bribe amount.

Bribery Investigation: How the ACB Caught the Officials

The two accused were immediately taken into custody, and the bribe money was seized on the spot in the presence of independent witnesses, as confirmed by the ACB. An official stated, “Both the officials were trapped and arrested red-handed while accepting the bribe. They have been taken into custody, and further investigation is ongoing.”

The swift action of the ACB not only showcases its commitment to combating corruption in Jammu and Kashmir but also raises questions about the extent of corrupt practices within the PDD. The Anti-Corruption Bureau is now investigating to determine whether more officials are involved in these alleged malpractices.

Wider Corruption Issues in the Power Development Department

The ACB has suggested the possibility of broader irregularities within the Electric Division, hinting that the two arrests may just be the tip of the iceberg. As investigations proceed, the bureau is calling for public support in reporting corruption.

“We urge citizens to continue reporting instances of corruption. Our commitment to taking strict action against those found guilty, regardless of rank or position, remains unshaken,” an ACB officer said. The message of transparency and action against graft echoes the bureau’s mission to restore faith in public services.

Public Response to Anti-Corruption Efforts

Over the last few months, the ACB has ramped up efforts to tackle corruption in Jammu and Kashmir. With high-profile cases being brought to light, citizens have begun to show increased vigilance.

Many are now more willing to report incidents of bribery and malpractice, which CEO of Transparency International India notes is a positive sign: “Public participation is the backbone of any anti-corruption effort, and reporting corruption is crucial for holding public officials accountable.”

The recent arrest of the PDD officials serves as a reminder of the ongoing battle against corruption in the region. The Jammu and Kashmir ACB emphasizes their message of accountability and integrity, paving the way for a cleaner, more transparent future.
