RAMBAN, JULY 08: Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gool, Imtiaz, chaired a critical Sub-Division Level Disaster Management and Coordination Meeting today to assess and enhance the area’s disaster preparedness. The meeting, held in Gool, aimed at fortifying inter-departmental coordination, ensuring effective relief measures, and preparing for potential natural hazards such as floods, landslides, and cloudbursts.
Imtiaz convened key officials, including Tehsildar Harjeet Singh, SDPO Kuldeep Raj, and representatives from various departments. Notable attendees included Naib Tehsildar Inktikhab Ahmed, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer (SDAO) Sanjay Sharma, along with personnel from Jal Shakti, PMGSY, PWD, and the police.
The agenda focused heavily on reviewing the current disaster management plan. The officials assessed the availability of personnel and machinery, stock levels of essential commodities, and the functionality of control rooms and communication systems in the sub-division. The SDM underscored the necessity for all departments to maintain a high alert status with the monsoon season fast approaching.
During the meeting, Imtiaz emphasized proactive measures coupled with effective communication among departments. He instructed the Jal Shakti, PWD, and PMGSY sectors to identify at-risk areas and keep relief teams and equipment in a state of readiness for immediate deployment as necessary.
Meanwhile, the Health department received directives to ensure that medicines, ambulances, and adequate medical staff are available at the Community Health Centre (CHC) Gool and Primary Health Centres (PHCs). The Fair Price Shops and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) department was tasked with maintaining a buffer stock of rations, while the Power Development Department (PDD) was urged to arrange backup power supplies.
Imtiaz further instructed Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars to routinely visit vulnerable locations, keeping current lists of disaster-prone areas and promoting public awareness of safety practices. Engaging the local community, he urged residents to relay critical safety information during emergencies.
Collaboration among the police and 23 RR was highlighted as essential for supporting rescue and evacuation efforts, with Beacon representatives also reminded to prioritize the restoration of roads that may face blockages due to landslides.
The SDM reaffirmed that safeguarding lives and property stands as the administration’s top priority. He noted, “Effective coordination, timely response, and public cooperation are key to minimizing the impact of disasters.” The local administration remains resolute and prepared to tackle any situation resulting from natural calamities as the region braces for the monsoon season.
