Gool SDM Chairs Disaster Preparedness Meeting for Monsoon

RAMBAN, JULY 08: Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gool, Imtiaz, chaired a vital Sub-Division Level Disaster Management meeting today in Gool. The focus rested on reviewing disaster preparedness, enhancing inter-departmental coordination, and implementing effective relief measures against natural hazards such as floods, landslides, and cloudbursts.

In attendance were key officials including Tehsildar Harjeet Singh, SDPO Kuldeep Raj, Naib Tehsildar Inktikhab Ahmed, and Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer (SDAO) Sanjay Sharma. Several engineers and field representatives from departments of Jal Shakti, PMGSY, and PWD also participated, alongside personnel from the 23 RR Gool, Beacon Mahore, and Batote.

The SDM presented a thorough analysis of the existing disaster management plans, checking the availability of personnel, machinery, and essential commodities. He evaluated the functioning of control rooms and communication systems within the sub-division.

Imtiaz stressed the necessity for all line departments to maintain high alertness as monsoon season approaches. He instructed the continuous monitoring of vulnerable regions susceptible to landslides and flash floods. The SDM strongly advocated for proactive measures and uninterrupted communication among departments to efficiently manage any emergency scenarios.

The departments of Jal Shakti, PWD, and PMGSY received specific directives to identify high-risk areas and ensure that response teams and equipment are on standby for immediate action. Health department officials committed to securing an adequate supply of medicines, ambulances, and medical personnel at both the Community Health Centre (CHC) Gool and Primary Health Centres (PHCs).

In addition, the Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) department was tasked with maintaining a buffer stock of essential rations. The Power Development Department (PDD) was also asked to prepare contingency plans for power supply continuity during disasters.

The SDM instructed Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars to routinely survey vulnerable zones, keep updated records of disaster-prone areas, and organize public awareness programs on safety measures. He underscored the critical role of community involvement in disseminating information on safety protocols during emergencies.

Law enforcement and 23 RR were called upon to assist with rescue and evacuation operations. Meanwhile, representatives from Beacon were tasked with ensuring the rapid restoration of road connectivity after any blockages.

SDM Imtiaz affirmed that safeguarding lives and properties remains the administration’s utmost priority. He advocated that efficient coordination, timely response, and public cooperation are crucial to mitigating disaster impacts. He assured residents that the administration stands fully prepared to address any challenges arising from natural calamities.
