Police arrested three suspected drug peddlers, including a 17-year-old boy, for possessing heroin in Samba and Kathua districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. This crackdown on narcotics comes as police intensify efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
The police intercepted the teenager late Sunday evening while he rode a motorcycle from Balole Khad towards JDA Colony in the Bari Brahmana area of Samba. During the routine checking, officers discovered 3.36 grams of heroin hidden in his possession. Following this, police confiscated both the motorcycle and the illegal contraband.
Authorities registered a case under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the teenager. Subsequently, they presented him before the competent authority, which ordered his transfer to the observation home at R S Pura, Jammu.
In a separate operation the same evening, police apprehended two more narcotic smugglers in the Billawar area of Kathua district. During inspections at Galak, officers seized 23 grams of heroin from the duo. The arrested suspects were identified as Pawan Dev Singh from Majalta (Udhampur) and Naresh Singh from Makwal-Ramkot (Kathua).
Authorities have registered a case under the NDPS Act against the two men as well. Police officials urge the community to remain vigilant against drug trafficking and report suspicious activities. The crackdown reflects a broader strategy to enhance safety and curb the drug menace plaguing the region.
The Jammu and Kashmir police continue to embark on initiatives aimed at identifying and dismantling the networks involved in drug trade. Confirming their commitment, a police spokesman stated, “We will continue our efforts relentlessly to protect our youth and society from the clutches of drug addiction.”
As the fight against narcotics persists, local residents are encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement officials to ensure a safer environment. The increasing vigilance offers hope that through collaborative efforts, the troubling trend of drug abuse can be diminished in Jammu and Kashmir.
