Three suspected drug peddlers, including a 17-year-old boy, faced arrest in Samba and Kathua districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. Police apprehended the trio while recovering heroin valued heavily on the illicit market.
The teenager was intercepted late Sunday evening while riding a motorcycle from Balole Khad towards JDA Colony in the Bari Brahmana area of Samba. A police spokesman reported that officers seized 3.36 grams of heroin from the minor’s possession. The motorcycle used in the transport of illegal substances was also confiscated by the authorities.
Following the arrest, police registered a case under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The teenager was subsequently produced before the competent authority and sent to an observation home in R. S. Pura, Jammu.
In a separate operation, authorities detained two more narcotics smugglers in Kathua. Police seized 23 grams of heroin from their possession during a routine check at Galak in the Billawar area late Sunday. The arrested individuals were identified as Pawan Dev Singh, a resident of Majalta in Udhampur, and Naresh Singh from Makwal-Ramkot in Kathua.
The police spokesman confirmed that a case under the NDPS Act has been initiated against both men. This operation adds to the ongoing efforts by Jammu and Kashmir police to combat the rising menace of drug trafficking in the region.
