RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat underlined the essence of vyakti nirman (character building) while rejecting political temptations at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s centenary event on Vijayadashami in Nagpur. This annual function, marking a century of the RSS, served as a platform for Bhagwat to share insights from the organisation’s historic journey.
In his address, Bhagwat urged members to adhere strictly to the mission of character development despite numerous invitations to plunge into politics. He stated, “Over the last 100 years, the RSS has faced many temptations and invitations to join the political arena. But our emphasis remains on running shakhas and fostering character-building,” highlighting the foundation of their work.
Bhagwat further discussed the necessity for gradual reforms within the global framework. He expressed that India must develop a model of progress rooted in dharma (righteousness), advocating for an integrated and holistic approach. He articulated, “India must present a development model based on a holistic and integrated outlook, rooted in dharma, and offer it to the world.”
Delving deeper into the concept of dharma, Bhagwat explained it transcends mere rituals and traditions. Instead, it embodies a principle that connects various aspects of societal life. He stated that social transformation is achievable through exemplifying values like integrity, selflessness, and social leadership.
Bhagwat called the commitment to vyakti nirman a sustainable path for social change, stressing it reflects the collective experiences of swayamsevaks over the years. He elaborated on India’s vast diversity—its myriad languages, faiths, and lifestyles—which he labelled a national strength.
He asserted, “All communities, including those who adopted foreign religions, are part of the larger Indian identity,” urging for harmony and mutual respect. Bhagwat firmly condemned hooliganism and actions that incite communal discord, asserting that law enforcement must operate impartially.
Moreover, he called on society, especially the youth, to stay alert and united to protect the peace and harmony that define India. Mohan Bhagwat’s passionate address resonated with many, who viewed it as a reaffirmation of the RSS’s longstanding commitment to community upliftment and national integrity as it celebrates a century of impactful service.
