In a tragic road accident early Monday morning in Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district, 19 people lost their lives and four others sustained injuries when a gravel-laden tipper collided head-on with a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus near Chevella. Police reported the incident occurred just before dawn.
The impact of the collision was catastrophic, causing gravel to cascade over the bus and trapping multiple passengers inside the mangled wreckage. Among the deceased, authorities confirmed 10 women and the bus driver, who was navigating the route from Tandur to Hyderabad.
“The total number of passengers in the bus could not be confirmed at once,” stated a senior police officer. He noted that many of the injured survivors were in shock, making it difficult for them to provide critical details.
Rescue teams arrived promptly at the scene, employing earthmovers to clear debris and facilitate relief operations. They worked tirelessly to extract trapped passengers from the wreckage. Emergency medical teams swiftly transported the injured to nearby hospitals for urgent care.
In response to this grave incident, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy conveyed his deep sorrow and ordered Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao and DGP Shivadhar Reddy to oversee rescue efforts on a war footing. The Chief Minister also instructed cabinet ministers to head to the accident site to ensure immediate assistance for the victims.
Furthermore, he ordered that injured passengers be transferred to Hyderabad for advanced medical treatment, assuring the public that the government would extend all possible support to the affected families.
This incident highlights a growing concern regarding road safety in India, particularly on highways, where accidents frequently lead to tragic outcomes. With mounting pressure for improved infrastructure and stringent enforcement of traffic regulations, calls for reform have intensified in the aftermath of such catastrophic events.
In the days following this accident, public outcry has risen, prompting social media users to express their anguish and demand justice for the victims. Many are advocating for stricter measures to enhance road safety and protect innocent lives.
Experts emphasize the need for better enforcement of traffic laws and the implementation of safety features in heavy vehicles to mitigate future accidents. As the investigation unfolds, authorities are expected to scrutinize the conditions of the vehicles involved and assess the overall safety measures in place.
