19 Killed, 4 Injured in Telangana RTC Bus Collision

In a devastating road accident early Monday morning, at least 19 people were killed and four others sustained injuries when a gravel-laden tipper lorry collided head-on with a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus near Chevella in Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district, police confirmed.

The incident occurred around 6 AM when the tipper, carrying a load of gravel, struck the bus that was en route from Tandur to Hyderabad. The violent impact caused a large amount of gravel to spill onto the bus, trapping numerous passengers within the wreckage.

Among the deceased, authorities identified 10 women and the bus driver. A senior police official stated, “The total number of passengers in the bus could not be ascertained immediately,” highlighting the chaos following the collision. As confirmed by initial reports, the injured survivors were in a state of shock, unable to provide immediate details of the incident.

Rescue operations commenced swiftly following the accident, with teams using earthmovers to clear debris and extract trapped passengers from the mangled vehicle. Paramedics hurried the injured to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention, considering the severity of their conditions.

Expressing profound sorrow over the tragic incident, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy visited the site and directed Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao and DGP Shivadhar Reddy to coordinate relief and rescue operations on a war footing. His immediate instruction arrived as news of the accident spread through local communities, prompting an urgent response from the state government.

He further mandated that injured passengers be transferred to Hyderabad for advanced medical care, promising that the government would extend all necessary support to the families affected by this tragedy. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of rapid response in situations like this, ensuring that no delay would hinder aid to victims.

This accident serves as a grim reminder of the perils on Indian roads, where traffic awareness and adherence to safety protocols remain critical. Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances leading to the collision, focusing on driver fatigue and vehicle maintenance as potential factors.

In light of this accident, transport experts urge enhanced training for drivers and stricter regulatory measures to ensure public safety on highways. They also recommend deploying more surveillance mechanisms to monitor traffic flow and enforce road safety regulations effectively.

As the investigation unfolds, officials encourage the public to remain aware of road safety practices and heed traffic signals. The local administration has vowed to improve infrastructure and implement measures aimed at preventing similar tragedies in the future.
