Delhi’s Air Quality Remains Poor as AQI Hits 251

NEW DELHI: As of November 1, Delhi’s air quality remains in the ‘poor’ category, with the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) escalating to 251 from 218 the previous day, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data.

The city has been facing persistent air quality challenges, particularly as winter approaches. The CPCB’s Sameer app recorded AQI values, indicating a severe health hazard for the city’s residents. At several monitoring stations, AQI levels climbed into the ‘very poor’ category, adding to concerns about air pollution.

The monitoring stations reported that Wazirpur has emerged with the highest AQI level at 333, a stark reminder of the deteriorating air conditions. Other areas also experienced alarming readings, contributing to the overall poor air quality narrative that has become a regular feature in Delhi.

The ongoing pollution challenge in Delhi stems from various sources. These include vehicular emissions, construction dust, and crop burning in the neighboring states. This multifaceted issue requires immediate attention and effective policy measures to safeguard public health.

Experts urge residents to take precautions, especially those with pre-existing health conditions. They advise minimizing outdoor activities and wearing masks to mitigate exposure to harmful particulates. The worsening air quality levels pose significant risks, with ailments such as asthma and respiratory disorders becoming more prevalent.

The situation has sparked widespread concern among health professionals, who highlight the need for more robust measures to curb pollution. As the AQI fluctuates, citizens remain vigilant, especially as adverse weather conditions may exacerbate pollution in the coming weeks.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, emphasizing the need for citizen awareness and collective action to combat air pollution. As Delhi grapples with this environmental challenge, the hope for cleaner air remains a pressing goal for its residents.
