GMC Doda Successfully Executes First Thrombolysis for Stroke

Doda, November 2: In a landmark achievement, the Government Medical College (GMC) Doda has performed its first-ever thrombolysis procedure on a stroke patient, significantly enhancing emergency healthcare services in the Chenab Valley.

This groundbreaking procedure, conducted under the leadership of Principal Dr. Rakesh Bahl and Dr. Amir Hussain Parray, Head of the Department of Medicine, represents the first instance of advanced stroke treatment available locally. Until now, patients with acute stroke symptoms faced delays as they were referred to GMC Jammu or other facilities, often losing valuable time.

The patient, Roshan Lal, hailing from village Dolli in Gundna tehsil, presented with classic stroke symptoms. He arrived at GMC Doda where he received prompt evaluation and treatment from a dedicated team led by Dr. Govinder Kumar, MD Medicine. Dr. Divyanshu, a resident doctor, and Dr. Momin, an intern, also played crucial roles in the emergency response. Their efforts were greatly supported by Mr. Rajinder Singh, Mr. Arif Mir, and the nursing staff.

Following the thrombolytic therapy, doctors reported that Lal responded well and is steadily recovering. This success opens new avenues for stroke management in the district, offering timely treatment that can preserve lives.

“This procedure is a significant milestone for GMC Doda and assures thousands in remote areas that they can access advanced stroke treatment promptly,” stated Dr. Bahl. He emphasized that this development symbolizes hope for communities that previously lacked access to critical medical services.

Dr. Parray reflected on the achievement, stating, “Our growing capabilities in emergency medicine reflect our commitment to transforming healthcare in the Chenab region. This success is not just a medical achievement, but a beacon of hope for our community.”

The procedure has received widespread praise from the local community, marking a vital step towards fortifying rural healthcare infrastructure. With this advancement in thrombolysis for stroke at GMC Doda, the medical team has enhanced the area’s capacity to respond effectively to stroke emergencies, crucial in management within the golden hour.

Patients requiring immediate stroke intervention can now receive timely care in their local facility, significantly improving their chances of recovery.
