RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav faced detention in Patna on Wednesday while leading a protest march regarding police actions during the NEET paper leak protests in Bihar. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya K. Sharma confirmed the detention, emphasizing the escalating tensions surrounding this crucial educational issue.
The incident took place near the Income Tax office in Patna, where Yadav was taken away in a police vehicle. Observers noted the growing unrest surrounding examination irregularities and government actions against student protesters.
Speaking to reporters as authorities escorted him into the police van, Yadav stated, “The government is pushing the future of students into darkness. Exam papers are getting leaked frequently.” His remarks reflect the deep concerns among the youth over the integrity of the examination process.
Earlier in the day, Yadav, serving as the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar assembly, led RJD leaders and supporters in a protest march from JP Golambar to Lok Bhavan. This demonstration aimed to protest not just the NEET examination controversies but also the government’s aggressive response to peaceful student protests.
The authorities responded robustly, deploying water cannons against the protesting leaders, including Yadav. Protesters attempted to breach barricades along the march route, underscoring the high level of frustration among students and their advocates.
Yadav continued his comments, arguing, “It is important to understand the emotions of Gen Z. The government used AK-47 rifles against the protesting students in Bihar, and pellet guns and nail-embedded batons against them in Delhi, just because they demanded an honest and transparent examination system.” His words resonate deeply in a state grappling with repeated allegations of corruption and unfair practices in educational assessments.
The recent spate of protests has highlighted a broader discontent among students and parents regarding examination integrity and government response. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is crucial for students aspiring to enter medical colleges across the country, making any allegations of paper leaks particularly alarming.
As the situation unfolds, many wonder how these events will impact the upcoming electoral landscape in Bihar and the perception of the ruling government towards educational reform.
