RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav was detained in Patna on Wednesday while leading a march against police actions during the recent NEET paper leak protests in Bihar. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya K Sharma, Yadav faced police intervention near the Income Tax office as tensions escalated.
The protest, organized by Yadav and key party figures, aimed to voice frustrations about government handling of the examination system. “The government is pushing the future of students into darkness. Exam papers are getting leaked frequently,” Yadav claimed while being escorted into a police vehicle.
The march commenced from JP Golambar and was intended to reach Lok Bhavan. Yadav, who serves as the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, spearheaded a rally that quickly turned chaotic. Protesters clashed with police, who deployed water cannons in an effort to control the escalating situation.
During the protest, Yadav condemned the government’s excessive use of force against students. “It is important to understand the emotions of Gen Z. The government used AK-47 rifles against the protesting students in Bihar, and pellet guns and nail-embedded batons against them in Delhi, just because they demanded an honest and transparent examination system,” he added, highlighting the ongoing frustrations among the youth.
The RJD, a major player in Bihar politics, has consistently raised concerns about the integrity of the examination processes. Previous NEET protests stemmed from allegations of paper leaks and mismanagement, causing unrest among aspirants across the state.
As Bihar grapples with these systemic issues, student protests reflect a growing discontent against the ruling government’s educational policies. Observers note that the recent incidents may further mobilize youth against what they perceive as an unresponsive administration.
In the wake of Yadav’s detention, the RJD and supporters commenced social media campaigns, rallying public sentiment in favor of reforming the examination system. The party has urged the government to take immediate steps to restore trust and ensure the integrity of educational assessments.
Yadav’s detention marks a significant moment in Bihar’s political landscape, serving as a rallying cry for those advocating for educational reform. As the state responds to these demands, the implications for Bihar’s future could become increasingly pivotal.
