Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti has raised poignant concerns about the plight of Generation Z in India, particularly focusing on Kashmiri youth. In his address, PM Modi urged forgiveness for students who expressed their discontent towards him during protests at Jantar Mantar. However, Mufti emphasized that Kashmiri youth require more than just sympathy or charity; they deserve equal opportunities.
“Hon’ble PM @narendramodi, there are two Gen Zs in India,” Mufti stated. “One inherited opportunity; the other, in Kashmir, inherited curfews, crackdowns, internet shutdowns, lost classrooms, unemployment, and trauma. Kashmiri youth seek neither sympathy nor charity, only dignity, equal opportunity, political space, and the freedom to dream without fear.”
Her remarks resonate deeply in a region historically marred by violence and disruption. More than a decade-long conflict has significantly affected Kashmir’s education, employment, and social fabric, leaving its youth vulnerable and disenfranchised.
