Two-time Olympic shuttler PV Sindhu recently revealed insights into her unique relationship with cricket icon Virat Kohli. On the latest episode of the RCB Podcast, she shared how his advice during her struggles significantly impacted her career, describing him as a brotherly figure.
Sindhu, who competes in the ongoing BWF World Championships, reflected on her interactions with Kohli, particularly during a challenging phase in her career. She cited a pivotal moment when she met him and expressed her frustrations about her performance.
In this heartfelt conversation, Sindhu recalled Kohli’s encouraging words, urging her to simply show up for matches and training. “He is like my brother I must say, because I remember when I was at my lowest. I told him nothing is happening,” Sindhu said. “He just said that just show up; it is okay, just go out there and just show up.”
This straightforward yet profound advice helped change her perspective. “He asked me to show up anywhere for anything and just play my game. What would happen? You are not going to lose anything. You know what you are and how you have trained; show the world who you are,” she explained. Sindhu emphasized that this conversation completely transformed her approach during that challenging period.
On maintaining their friendship, Sindhu mentioned that she keeps Kohli updated about her successes. “Whenever I win, I share my happiness with him, saying I have won this or that,” she noted. “It is always good to meet a person who has achieved so much and to receive insights from him on how he approaches the game.”
This warm bond between Sindhu and Kohli highlights the camaraderie shared among athletes of different sports. As both pursue excellence at the highest levels, their mutual respect and support for each other stands out.
In her latest sporting effort, PV Sindhu demonstrated her prowess against Ireland’s Sophia Noble at the BWF World Championships held in New Delhi. She delivered a dominant performance, winning her match decisively with a score of 21-7, 21-11 in the women’s singles Round of 64.
As Sindhu continues to excel on the global stage, her relationship with Kohli serves as a reminder of the power of camaraderie and motivation in sports. Her ability to overcome challenges and share her journey with someone like Kohli not only enriches her narrative but also inspires her fans.
